Happy Monday! Today I wanted to share my personal experience of using birth control for period pain. I actually wrote a blog about it, but I think it’s in need of an update. I went on the pill when I was a teenager. I didn’t really know anything about it, and to be honest I had a negative attitude towards birth control. To me, it was embarrassing to be using it. Long story short, I tried it and it worked. However, now that I’ve been using it for a long time, I must admit that I get tired of it. I get tired of having to take it every day, and of dealing with side effects. At least I think some of the symptoms I experience are from taking the pill. I just keep thinking, there has to be a better way. Can you relate?
I also remember talking to a doctor about how I wanted to find natural remedies for my period pain, and she just wasn’t hearing me. She basically said that I can try a different pill, or take birth control in some other form (e.g getting the shot). I am not against using birth control for period pain. I believe we should all do what works best for our body, but I also believe that there’s more than one option.
Have you used birth control before? Did it work for you? What was that experience like, and have you found other tools that help manage your pain?
